Microwave Jenny is Australian duo Tessa Nuku and Brendon Boney. This intriguing match has been wooing music lovers across the country with its silky harmonies since the pair first joined forces three years ago. With a name that stems from classic Aussie film "The Castle", Microwave Jenny’s genre-defying style is determined to bring pop music played by real musicians with real instruments back to the Australian musical landscape.
Brendon and Tessa first crossed paths while rehearsing backstage at a show in 2005. The realisation they shared the same kind of musical direction and an undeniable chemistry was the catalyst for the first Microwave Jenny show. With such an enjoyable live presence at their acoustic shows it’s easy to forget there are only two people on stage.
Tessa has a unique voice that will send an unforgettable tingle down the audience’s spine. Her alternative twist on the jazz and pop genres will carve a new spot in listeners’ hearts plus her ability to make an amazing choc-top ice cream will help make the Central Coast 22-year-old a force in the Australian music industry.
Combined with Brendon’s ability to eat choc-top ice creams, his heart-felt, blues influenced guitar and vocal versatility, the dynamic pairing promises something truly special.
Brendon, also 22, had his first guitar when he was 10 but only picked it up and played nearly 7 years later when a severe shoulder injury ended a soccer career that had seen him travelling the world. Now, after a few years of gaining what he affectionately refers to as a "solid musical education" gigging and working in a record store he’s ready to take the stage and share his captivating personality with the world.
This singer/songwriting duet's musical education doesn't end there though. Believing strongly in the importance of an artist's independence, they have been running their career completely on their own and learning plenty along the way.
When a chance encounter landed Microwave Jenny infront of producer Daniel Denholm he fell in love with the music and agreed to work with the guys.
After having their first single mixed and mastered in New York City, they now are looking forward to performing live for fans. “We can’t wait to get out and play for as many people as we can,” Tessa said.
Brendon says “We love performing and we want that to be felt and enjoyed by everyone who gets our record.”
Microwave Jenny delivers some of the most refreshing and memorable songs in a long time and they’re already a festival favourite performing at The Dreaming Festival, Nannup Music Festival and The Woodford Folk Festival.
Drawing influence from artists such as James Taylor, Bill Withers, Van Morrison, Janis Ian and Joni Mitchell, they aim to promote good vibes, positive spirited music with honest, and sincere lyrics. Their contagious melodies and unique outlook on life, love and the world around them is hard to ignore.
